As the US’s biggest brick-and-mortar bookstore, getting preorders from them is incredibly important to authors - especially new ones like myself - to show B&N there is interest in the book. It encourages them to order more copies for their physical stores so more readers who aren’t chronically online aware of the latest books being talked about online have a chance to discover it! As many of you know, priority is given these days to special editions/limited editions (in Young Adult the most) since they’re the fancier version of a book and shows a publisher is investing more into it which in turn gets stores like B&N to also want to invest. That’s great for the authors blessed with those extra bells and whistles, but for those of us who aren’t given that, we hope and pray even more so that you readers will take a chance on our book even if we are sort of the wallflowers hoping someone will choose our book to dance with read!
