Hi friend!
As this newsletter hints (warns?) at, I’m back with one last post/reminder/plea *cough* about getting your preorders in for my debut, In the Company of Killers, before it releases this time next week!!!! How are we nearly there?! It quite literally feels like yesterday when I first sold this book. Now that was 2 years ago and it was 1 year ago when I first announced the news. Ummmm, excuse my French, but holy shit?! Time is a concept and I am but a piece of anxious space dust floating within it.
OK, enough about space dust. If you’ve been musing over preordering ITCOK, I suggest/request/beg/plea/offer-my-first-unborn-child for you to do so before the book releases! Preorder numbers are incredibly important for debuts like myself who need all the boosts and interest they can get to prove to their publisher & retailers that a particular book is worth investing marketing dollars and shelf space into. It is pretty old-fashioned, not gonna lie, but to publishers, the first week/month sales are incredibly important for proving what the level of hype for a book might be and thus, here I am, suggesting/requesting/begging/pleading for you to help boost that priority up.
Every little bit helps and I am truly so so grateful to every one of you who has already supported / hyped this book up by preordering, reviewing, and generally talking about ITCOK up until now. You all made a rocky terrain that is called Debut Year much easier to navigate and I’m forever appreciative of you. Special shout out to certain members of my lovely Street Team aka The Killer Squad who have gone above and beyond to help boost this book (you know who you are)!!! ❤️
Now, about those preorders……

HEY, MOM, I’M GOING ON TOUR (ALSO KNOWN AS THE MORTIFYING ORDEAL OF SIGNING BOOKS HOPING YOU DON’T SCREW UP YOUR OWN SIGNATURE)
Another friendly reminder is that I’ll be going ON TOUR next week!!!!!! I officially leave this Saturday for New York City before the sun has made its way into the sky and I cannot wait! This has been an authorly dream since the beginning and to think that my publisher said “hell yeah” (in their much more professional language) about sending me on one is nothing short of AMAZING. I have no idea how I got so lucky, but you can bet I will be savouring every single moment of this tour and taking ALLL the photos!
If you’re in the NYC (March 18th @6pm), Dallas (March 19th @5:30pm) or Toronto (March 20th @ 6:30pm) areas, I hope you’ll come out for one of my launches! More details can be found here including my in-conversation partners who you won’t want to miss!!
I’ll also be doing panels in Ontario at Indigo Kitchener on March 26th and Indigo North London on March 27th with amazing Canadian kidlit authors!! These are ticketed and can be purchased on Indigo’s event page here. Each ticket includes access to the event + a participating author’s book of your choosing!
I’ll also be doing a signing with M.K. Lobb and Mackenzie Reed at Grimsby Books in Grimsby, Ontario at 1:00pm on March 29th!!
Finally, I’m ending the tour in my home away from home, St. John’s, Newfoundland on April 5th a 1:00pm at the Chapters St. John’s! If you’re on The Rock, I’d love to see you there (and tell your friends)!
My birthday is this Thursday, March 13th, and on that day, I turn 29 years old. Its quite the birthday gift to be releasing my debut novel mere days afterward and to be celebrating my birth/the release of my debut in one of my favourite cities! It’s also so fitting for it to be releasing around my bday when on that day 6 years ago, I first opened a fresh Word doc for In the Company of Killers and started drafting Tasha & Leo’s story.
Publishing a book before a certain timeline, like entering my thirties, is not necessary in the slightest and arbitrary overall, but I am very thrilled and appreciative that I get to live out the final year of my twenties as a published author before entering the next decade of my life.
I feel grateful that the stars finally aligned to bring me to this moment, relieved that I made it here despite many hurdles, and most of all, proud of my younger self for having the determination, belief, and trust in her future to see this wing-and-a-prayer dream through. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be holding tight to all the versions of myself that came before. Those versions held the torch for this dream so now, the woman and near-author I am today, can carry it to the finish line.

Until next time,
